Best way to request new/improved codec support, video corruption/skipping.

Hi I have a few files that either show substantial video corruption or skip frames (they play fine on PC), I’m sure it’s a codec issue as they are < 720p quality so file size shouldn’t be an issue. What’s the best way to submit reports? Submit diagnostic info from my device immediately after playing a file? Or are there any utilities that would provide extra info you need?

Until now I’ve been re-encoding them but I figured it was probably more useful to submit them and see if they can be fixed so other users don’t have to worry about it either. Thanks!

A support ticket with the MediaInfo specs, or a sample file would be the best way for us to look into a problem with a specific file.

Ticket updated with serial and MediaInfo exports, I can provide samples if there’s a Windows utility you recommend to slice the first 30s off each file. I’ll poke around Handbrake and see if I can find an option to do that without re-encoding it.

Depending on the file type you may be able to use MKVmerge.

A bit more info can be found here: http://www.logichaos.com/joomla/guides/35/60-how-to-split-mkv-to-multiple-mkv-files.html

Thanks for the quick response. Sample submitted!

Almost all of the files I’ve had to re-encode were High10 so that explains a lot of it. Any plans to support that codec or HD WMV in the future? I realize WMV is garbage and don’t blame you for that one, but there’s a lot of great HD anime that I can only find in High10 format.

We’d love to support both High10 and WMV HD, it’s just that the ATV2 hardware may not agree.  :frowning:

Keep it in the back of your mind for when the ATV3 is cracked open 8)
