Background app refresh not working

For some reason seems like mine is working again in iOS & tvOS. Will add more movies to test

I’m seeing zero activity on any platform. Nothing new on 5 ATVs or iOS or Mac OS.

I’m hoping this is addressed soon since it’s a becoming a major detractor to watching with Infuse when you have to wait for updates after launching before new content is displayed.

@james is there anything we as users can provide you information wise to help accelerate the fix for this? It is getting a bit long in the tooth. :tooth:

Worked only that time. Added more movies but nothing happened this time. Not sure what was the difference.

Yes, there’s a lot of things going on with catching up to tvOS iOS 17 updates, new direct mode, and fixing cache clearing.

Yeah but this post is from December 2022. This should be priority since we don’t have a server like Plex has it.

Is 7.7 coming in 2023? 8.x date is noted as 2024, but nothing else shows even a vague timeline.

Truly just a wild guess but I doubt if we’ll see 7.7 before the end of the year. Lots of holidays in the last few weeks and the first of the year.

7.7 is a major undertaking and I’d hate to see it rushed out instead of getting it close to right the first time. :wink:

I’m hurting for the background app refresh still but can hang in there a while longer.

This specific bug was removed from the roadmap on upcoming updates. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

It’ll be back. Give them time to reorganize things since the changes in 7.7.

I’m aware there was a petition for background auto scanning, and I’m curious about the status. If the issue wasn’t resolved, could you shed some light on why this feature was excluded from upcoming updates? Your users value this functionality, and clarity on its status would be greatly appreciated.

It wasn’t a petition, it was a bug report. Infuse was working great using it and after an update it quit working. I moved your post to that thread. :wink:

@james this will be fixed? Just lets us know to stop asking for this to be fixed. All my friends that I have recommend the app asks me if it’s possible to background refresh and right now I have 8 friends using infuse because of me but their question is always the same one.

The fixes that James mentioned for helping with background refresh require a significant rewrite. At the moment they are not working on that as they are doing direct mode for media servers. Once a few things settle down, they might look at it again.

Why are your friends asking you that question? Weird imho you are not a developer right? Why do your friends do this? Are they your friends really?

Are you using a tool like Plex or Jellyfin to stream your video? If so, I’d recommend you wait for a feature called “Direct Mode”. It eliminates the wait for syncing your library to all devices and works quite well. It should also be out a lot sooner than this bugfix. I’ve been testing it for the last few months, works quite well :slight_smile:

Well for me I don’t use any server like plex or jellyfin and I really do hope that this gets addressed soon. It worked so well for a short time but now it’s trashed and it makes watching videos far less enjoyable and instantaneous.

They are not into tech. They just use the app thinking it’s like Netflix. I’m the one always reading here & Reddit :nerd_face:

Same here. The reason for me using infuse is because the cloud services. Otherwise I would use Plex that I already own the lifetime plex pass.
