ATV2 4.4.4 Stuck HELP PLEASE!

Hi all !

Amateur here!

I was gifted a ATV2 from a friend which he rarely used so i decided to attempt to jailbreak it as it never has been. The device when i checked was running 4.4.4. ios.

I followed the tutorial @ http://forum.firecore.com/topic/7292 and gave me an error 1600 and 1602 on itunes once i was ready to restore… Keep in mind i tried the process over 5 times to no avail.

So i was curious to see if it was continue to work normally as it was but NO luck :frowning: My Tv  doesnt even recognise it anymore.

So i decided to go over the process again although it would not even allow me to back up ssh blobs at the begining of the process. It just wont allow me to do anything…

“requested image failed to load on device” was one error it gave me via iFaith and the other was " A device other than the ATV2 was detected"

So after some research on here, i decided to have a closer look at the blobs i had saved from the first crack i had it and view it via notepad and here is what came up; (not even sure if non jailbroken devices even have them :/)

I had read in another post on here that all 0 is a bad thing…

I have tried numerous cables + computers all to no avail.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as i have no clue how to go about it from here.

Did you not save the 4.4.4 blobs to Cydia BEFORE you tried to jailbreak it?

I thought i initially saved them through iFaith prior to building IPSW.

What i posted above is what the blob reads in notepad…

As for cydia, im not too familiar with it when it comes to Apple TV.

Is it even possible to just restore it and upgrade to ios 5.0?

Update: I followed some steps advised by fellow users and let season pass run its course and restored via itunes and that was successful although now the apple logo only appears on my TV…

Once you have run a restore, even if it was ultimately unsuccessful it will probably have overwritten the original blobs (or worse still just made them inaccessible to iFaith).  If you can find the blobs for 4.4.4 that you did save just look how big they are in Kb.  if they are 11.8Kb each youhave a fighting chance.  If they are 5.8Kb you haven’t (missing apticket).

Hi Ian and thanks for the reply.  Checked the blobs and thankfully they’re 11.8kb…

Also adding there is only one…

Is it the locally dumped blob or the one from Cydia’s cache?

OK, download Sn0wbreeze.  When using it always download a new IPSW even if you have one stored locally.  Sn0wbreeze is fairly self explanatory.  Use your saved blob.

I find it helps to have a lucky rabbit’s foot on the desk and to spin yourself around three times while incanting “Work, you bstrd!!” at least five times…

Most likely error will be 1600, or 1602. But Apple kit has a sense of humour and you might get 1648, -1 or any of a whole bunch it hasn’t used in a while.

Be patient and if you don’t get 1600 or 1602 be prepared to have to repeat the exercise several times.

If no luck tomorrow we will try the Total Commander method…

Hehe i certainly do need some luck… I have been trying for 3 days… Need more than a rabbit lol.

Currently in the process of downloading ipsw via snowbreeze. How does my saved blob come into play?

When it ask you if you want to use the IPSW with Snowbreeze click yes.  It’ll go to a screen for you to choose the mode, choose iFaith mode.  Then it’ll ask you to browse for it.  Find it, select it and Snow will build a signed IPSW for 4.4.4.

Next it will pwn DFU the ATV2 and ask you to open iTunes. Open iTunes with your shift key held down, browse to the IPSW Snow just made click OK and iTunes should restore it to 4.4.4 jailbroken.

In theory.

Got to the stage where it asked for my blobs, selected blobs then got an error “the provided apticket does not look vaid, snowbuild will refuse to build…”

just update to 5.3 before it’s to late. 4.4.4 was modified only newer verisons can be jb

Isnt it too late already with iOS 6 being released? Hope im wrong…

yes, but sometimes apple continues to sign off on a older software for a few days after release. if not your only option would be a tethered 4.4.2 jail break.

Im running an itunes update now and it seems its the ios6 with it being 660mb in size… Any info on how to go about the tethered jailbreak…? Much appreciated.

There is as yet no tethered jailbreak for 6.0, so there’s not a lot of point your continuing down that route.  if Snowbreeze says your apticket is not vaild you are stuffed, I am afraid.  Until a new jailbreak comes out for 6.0 - tethered or not.

My device is strange, when i carry out certain methods of jailbreaking such as  http://forum.firecore.com/topic/10197 itunes restores it succesfully but then appears in recovery mode in itunes. Every time i get to a step where i have to put it into dfu, it detects that its already in that mode…

Download Tiny Umbrella.  Useful for kicking it into and out of recovery mode.  Also will fix recovery loop.  Not the easiest program to get your head round though.

At present there appears to be route for you except the 4.4.2 tethered jailbreak.  I should wait a few days until Firecore brings out a Seas0npass brings out one for 6.0… You coud try to see if Apple still signs 5.3 and if so put jailbroken tethered on it if you are quick or even stock might shift it before the masses realise 6.0 is out with no jailbreak.  The dig deep and buy an untethered one.

Chances are that the jailbreak worked but you used one hat is tethered. If so you need to use SeasonPass to do a tethered boot.
