ATV Won't Light Up when plugged into Mac using Seasonpass

I purchased a new ATV and when I plugged it into  my Mac, the light in front of the ATV DOES NOT light up. So I unplugged it and just plugged in the power cord - the light did illuminate. When I connect it back to the computer using the micro plug, it doesn’t light. So I can’t put it into DSU mode and season pass doesn’t see it. I tried changing the micro cable  to no avail. Finally, I attempted to do a tethered jailbreak (having both the micro plug connected to the computer AND plugging in the power cord and season pass displays a window that says “Sorry, the device is not compatible”. Please help. I have not had problems doing this in the past. Any suggestions as to what I can do?  Why is this happening?

If it is a new ATV then it is almost certainly an ATV3 (see my sig).   There is currently no jailbreak available for that device.

Yes, it is a 2012 and that is definitely the problem; no JB available.
