Just so you know, it doesn’t seem to do that on most videos, but for example in my James Bond 4K collection, on 22 movies, it does that on 4 of them (and they used to work with the correct ratio before).
Would you also be able to send in the actual video that is being played when this issue occurs? There is likely something specific to these videos which we would like to investigate.
Thanks for sending that in. At first glance this file has some weird things going on, but we’ll see if there’s something we can do to improve things here.
For example, the Display Aspect Ratio is set to 16:9 which matches the original video but not this version which has the black bars cropped out.
Ok i asked ChatGPT and sent him your screenshot, i found a fix. Now the movie is displaying correctly in Infuse.
Here is the ChatGPT summary of what i’ve done, it was just a few commands in my Mac Terminal, and i had to install Mkvtoolnix.
“The file had incorrect aspect ratio metadata (tagged as 16:9 instead of ~2.35:1).
Infuse 8.4 now respects this metadata strictly, causing incorrect display.
I fixed it by updating the MKV display dimensions (3840x1636) using mkvpropedit (no re-encoding), and the issue is resolved.”
Maybe since 8.4 Infuse became more strict, and that’s why, since the metadata wasn’t correct, the movie had a bad aspect ratio.
