AppleTV 1st hard drive problem

Hi,

After a power loss, my AppleTV first generation doesn't work fine (3.0.2 software version).

It works fine when it streams from my macbook, but when I force sync from iTunes, when files are copying, it freezes the file copy. It seems that hard drive needs to be checked.

I try shutting down the AppleTV and pressing Menu+Down during Power Up, then I try to Run Diagnostics, but it replies with:

"there is a problem with your apple tv ethernet networking check the network settings" and the network is working fine, there is no problem with network. I try with ethernet cable and airport and both of them works fine, but Run Diagnostics always returns the same message...

Some of the menus of atvflash doesn't run, and when it runs it does nothing. I try to use Repair AppleTV, but it does nothing. I use smart installer, but it doesn't repair anything.

There is any way to launch repair utilities or I need to do a factory reset to repair the problems,

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Hi, personally I would do a factory reset of the ATV1, and then reload a fresh version of Firecore aTV Flash and hopefully, if there was any hard drive issues previously, the factory reset would eliminate this. Note though the XBMC on firecores aTV Flash is a bit redundant now as you can only load XBMC Eden and there is not much support for this now as we are now into XBMC Frodo 12.3 and Gotham 13.1. Maybe look at flashing Sam Nazarko's Crystalbuntu or OpenElec which both support the Linux OS.

Thank you for your answer. I will do a factory reset and I hope all works fine...

I will evaluate OpenElec or Crystalbuntu, but I like the syncronization between iPhoto & iTunes in my Mac with the AppleTV, do you know any way to have a similar sync with any of those Linux OS???

Thanks,

Absolutely. There are addons in XBMC which will enable you to share your iTunes as well as iPhoto (here's a link on how to do this - http://wiki.xbmc.org/). Also, you can simply use the SMB/AFP share function in XBMC which will enable you to set up SMB or AFP shares to stream your music through XBMC (here is a link on how to do this - http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Settings/Services) plus you should be able to stream your music wirelessly anyway from any WIFI enabled device to XBMC. All you have to do is enable this Airplay function through XBMC (as per previous link) as well as enabling it on your Mac/PC (through iTunes) or download/enable the Airserver app (http://www.airserver.com/) if you have a mac or Airparrot for both Mac/PC ( http://www.airsquirrels.com/airparrot/).

ENJOY! Hope this helps! :)
