Airplay volume not working

I’m going from a iPhone 5 and a iPad 2 to an Apple TV 3. Audio doesn’t work on native Airplay. I’m playing .avi, .mkv, and .m4v. I was under the impression that this would solve all of my problems associated with playing/streaming my video media. Newest iOS is installed on all devices. Please help.

Also, some .mkv videos will not play period. I can’t figure out why or what rule I’m breaking.

I can play mkv on my ipad without any issues but when I try to airplay to Apple TV, it doesn’t play period. Are you having the same issues?

Yes to MKV issues.

I am sometimes having the same issues as you, warrior. I don’t understand. I thought this app played just about everything, at least according to the app description in the App Store. It has been nothing but trouble for me.

Sometimes MKV files won’t play at all.

Sometimes MKV files won’t play with airplay

Sometimes MKV (and other file type) files won’t play audio via Airplay.

Is your Apple TV connected to an AV receiver or just a TV?

If connected to just a TV, you may try disabling the Dolby Digital over AirPlay option which can be found in the audio playback settings menu.

This seems to have fixed my mkv playback issues through airplay. Now it works but there still seems to be buffering issues every few minutes.

Will you have dolby digital over airplay fixed anytime soon?

Will be there be a fix for the buffering issue? (I don’t have any buffering issues when I convert the file to an apple format like mo4. I have an ipad mini retina with th A7 processor)

I can’t even get that far because just about every MKV won’t when I do AirPlay, which is very strange. I’ve never had an app let me play natively but wouldn’t cooperate once AirPlay to the Apple TV was activated.

What type of device is your Apple TV connected to? Dolby over AirPlay is really only useful if you’re connected to an AV receiver that can provide surround sound.

Would you mind running one of the files through ‘MediaInfo’ and sending us the specs?

MediaInfo is a free download available at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediainfo/

I’m running optical cable from Apple TV to a Harmon Karon AV receiver for surround sound.

Got it. One thing you may try is toggling the Apple TV’s Dolby Digital setting to On instead of Auto.

I’ll try it.

What about the buffering/playback issues?
