AI "auto" setting makes Infuse and device laggy and video worse

Hello,

I am using Infuse on a 6th gen iPad. For the last two months, the device struggled playing movies, and the interface became much slower, especially while movies where running (sometimes seconds between input and reaction!). This wasn’t only contained to Infuse, but also to using everything else on the iPad after watching movies. Today I found out that disabling AI upscaling fixes all issues, and also makes movies look better.

I believe that the performance problems come from resource limits or thermal limits. I tried taking comparision screenshots, but its difficult showing the effect because of sync issues. Basically, everything that moves looks cleaner to me with AI upscaling off, and even on stills there is better detail seperation. Source is a bluray rip without any reencoding.

Is AI upscaling = on really a good default option? I’d much rather watch the original video, have a cooler device, longer battery runtime, and acceptable device performance than having an attempt at real time upscaling. I also cannot imagine that this is a good tradeoff on any other device.

Thanks,

Paul

It may not be the best for devices that are 7+ years old, and that processor may not have the horsepower to handle the up-scaling tasks effectively.

If you are seeing these issues outside of Infuse then it may indicate a deeper issue with the iPad or system files, such as an issue installing an iPadOS update or some other corrupted files.

I am glad things appear to be working for you now, but sometimes it doesn’t hurt to perform a factory restore and start fresh.
