AFP is enabled, but volumes not showing in Network window

I should first lay out some background.

I got an AppleTV 40GB 1.0 version a few years ago as a christmas gift. Got it patched to allow ssh and all of the other goodies using the forums and wiki at AwkwardTV.

I’ve been running 1.0 up until about 2 weeks ago when I decided to take the plunge and update to 3.0.1 and use atvflash. When I was running 1.0, i had manually done the Smart Installer through NitoTV and enabled USB drive access. Enabling AFP was an option under the AwkwardTV frappliance and I was then able to connect to my AppleTV through my Network window on my Macbook and see all of the volumes. It showed connected as frontrow in the window.

When I updated to 3.0.1 and used atvflash, AFP would not enable. I searched around and figured out that the AFP software was not included on the OS image like it was on 1.0. I got that straightened out by copying the 1.0 recovery image to the Documents folder and rerunning the Smart Installer through the settings menu. The issue I seem to be having is that I can again see my AppleTV in the Network window, but it will only connect as VNC and not frontrow, so I can’t see the volumes (OSBoot, Media) like I used to be able to. I can connect to it via ftp/scp/ssh so I can get to the files if I need to via a client, but it would really be nice to be able to navigate through the files in a Finder window again.

Anyone know if there is a way to change the way that the AFP is enabled so that it will connect as the frontrow user instead of VNC when I look in the Network window on my Macbook? I’d really like to be able to get to the volumes on the AppleTV again through Finder and right now, the only thing I can do is share the desktop (VNC basically.) I don’t have keyboard or mouse support enabled so it doesn’t really do me any good to be able to connect via desktop sharing.

If you have access to the 1.0 software AFP can be enabled by following the guide below. The AppleTV will need to be restarted for the changes to take effect.

After a reboot it apparently started connecting as frontrow on my mac so I see the frontrow, Media and OSBoot volumes now.

Thanks for the help.
