I would like to use the online metadata for the movie descriptions, but at the same time I want to sort the movies the way I want to. For example with Jurassic Park I would like to have the following order shown in the library:
- Jurassic Park
- The Lost World: Jurassic Park
- Jurassic Park III
I don’t want to use the collections option.
Is there a way to achieve this? If so, please let me know how.
Just switch the ‘Sort By’ option to ‘Filename’ and adjust your filenames to get the order you want.
Note: Jurassic Part sequels have somewhat inconsistent naming, so after changing the filenames you may need to use the Edit option in Infuse to get the correct titles.
But this is not really an option, since I would have to rename all my filenames then.
Then I think the only way is to use local xml-files and change the titles there.
Is there a way to save all movie info that Infuse downloads for each movie into xml files?
Can I than add a “sort title” to those xmls to get the desired order?
If so, please let me know how to do so.
Unfortunately, I don’t think this will work (and would likely quite a bit more work than renaming files).
Can I ask why you prefer not to use the collections feature? Collections are listed in their own Collections area, as well as intermingled within the All Movies category. IMHO, this would be the best option for a case like this.
Well, it is not only about collections.
I also have many japanese movies which are shown with japanese characters. But then these are listet at the end of the list. For example: アキラ (Akira) is shown after Zombieland in the library. But I would like the movie to be shown in the „A“ area of the library.
So I need the option to add a sorting title.
This isn’t supported right now, but I’m going to move this over to suggestions for now.
Thank you. I think it would be a helpful option.
Would love to see the ability to add a “Sorting Title” so we can manual establish sorting for our libraries.
Most other apps allow this by letting the user specify a “Sorting Title” in each title’s metadata, so we can force sorting to our liking. It’s immensely helpful for both grouping and sorting movie sequels by release date. I personally don’t like using Collections (which sometimes miss titles), and I prefer to see all of my library by individual title.
For example, by default the Indiana Jones series will list the titles alphabetically, which makes them comically out of order:
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
[a ton of other movies from I through R]
Raiders of the Lost Ark
If the user could specify an invisible Sorting Title of “Indiana Jones 1”, “Indiana Jones 2”, “Indiana Jones 3”, “Indiana Jones 4”, then the user can control both the alphabetical appearance and grouping of a movie series.
I do this in Plex and it works perfectly, and tools like Media Center Master also allow the user to specify a Sorting Title.
To implement, perhaps adding an additional field for “Sorting Title” when Editing a title’s Metadata would work.
I’m looking at the Indiana Jones collection in the Infuse Library > Collections and they are listed in the correct order by year released. You can turn collections off in the settings and still use the Library Collections as a favorite if you like.
I just prefer not to use Collections.
The Collection artwork is often not to my liking, or I don’t have all the movies in that Collection, and I can’t specify my own groupins (i.e. I would want all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe titles together by release date), which I can do with a Sorting Title by using “MCU 1”, “MCU 2”, etc.
