I made a playlist of movies. I then made a custom collection of tv shows by series.
Then I decided I would like to add the the collection to the playlist. Instead of just showing the series, it shows the episodes for each season not just the series. Made the playlist to long for browsing.
Does infuse not allow the tv series and movies to mix in a playlist?
A difference been a Playlist and a Collection is that a Playlist lists every item placed in it, while a Collection will collapse TV episodes into their series.
Therefore when you placed the Collection into the Playlist all the item in the collection were added to the playlist.
This is apparently the intended behaviour as 7.4.1 contained a “fix” to Playlists because they were incorrectly collapsing TV episodes into their series in 7.4.
It would be great if playlists from Plex could be ordered in seasons in stead of episodes. It gives a smoother, much nicer look and is much faster to scroll through.
One example is Curb Your Enthusiasm, of which I have all 11 Seasons, now is spread out over 100 files/episodes.
Infuse doesn’t (in the way you request, with TV episodes collapsed to their series folders).
But Infuse does allow movies and TV series to mix in a custom collection.
What Infuse lacks is the ability to add individual custom collections to the favorites bar, as users’ individual playlists can be.
Yup, this took me a while to figure out too.
Collections are made of movies and of TV series. Because collections are meant to group together a bunch of “intellectual property”. I personally use one collection for the TV shows I’m currently in the middle of and of movies I want to watch.
Playlists are made of movies and of TV episodes. Because playlists are meant to group together a bunch of files. Think of audio player playlists – they’re made of tracks, not albums. (This is why if you add a TV series, it adds all the episodes. When probably that’s not what you want – you should be using a collection instead.) I personally use a playlist to keep track of which best-of Star Trek TOS episodes I want to watch.
I think the documentation does a bad job of explaining the difference. But once you figure it out, it makes sense.
And that it doesn’t make sense to add a collection to a playlist, or vice-versa. But what you can do is have rows on your homescreen for:
- All playlists
- All collections
- Any specific playlist you choose
- Any specific collection you choose
So you can vertically put anything next to anything else that you want, in that sense.
