A few questions about organizing and searching in Infuse

I have two general observations:

  1. It seems to me that if I download a few seasons of a show, then when I go into that folder through Infuse, then it seems to download the thumbnails first and then organize the episodes into proper seasons etc. Which is great! But I’m noticing this organization is not retained. If I go back into that folder again a few days later, it has to grab the thumbnails again and reorganize again! I’m guessing this is an issue with some setting to preserve the metadata or the organization. Any suggestion would be helpful.
  2. My search seems not to work. When I search with a name for a movie, the search function tries to show me actors whose names match my search term etc. I’d like to find a way to force Infuse to go through and catalog my entire collection and make the search function a working one. Again, I’m guessing this is some setting I am missing.

Thank you everyone. REALLY loving Infuse!

First, what type of connection are you using? SMB, FTP, DLNA, Plex, Emby, Jellyfin etc.

Also, can you provide a screen cap of how you have your movies and TV shows named and how they’re organized

So, I am on Mac OSX and all my movies are stored on a Synology NAS–so I think I’m using SMB. Attaching a screenshot of just a small sample of my PBS NOVA series folders on the NAS. Thank you for your response.

Just to make sure I understand, what is the name of your season 07 folder? Is it “Nova/Season07” or just “Season 07”

Is this the Nova tv series that premiered in 1974?

It is the 1974 PBS series. And the name is "“Nova/Season07”

Well first thing, the slash may be adding to the confusion. It’s an illegal character for file names.

Another suggestion is to use the release year in the show name for both the main folder and episode names.

This format has been about 99% bulletproof for me.

The Mac “Rename” function makes changing things like this real easy.

So, I understand the part about organizing and illegal characters. But will it prevent Infuse from resorting every time I go back into the folder? Seems to me that despite my poor organization and use of illegal characters, Infuse definitely goes ahead and organizes it properly. My main concern and question had to do with that it seems to be not retaining that organization.

It is difficult to say exactly what is causing what you’re seeing, the only way I know to figure out the cause it to first correct the basics and see if that may be the solution. Using illegal characters is one thing known to cause problems.

When you’re browsing files are you viewing them from the favorites or are you using the library to view them?

I’m using the Library. I’ll fix the organization and remove the illegal characters and try again.
