This is not for me. I’ve been a subscriber for years now. Audio sync issues, HDR10+ (fsck dolby and their proprietary messy array of profiles) have drive me to you Thank you!
The issue:
Plex Client is getting more and more notorious for pushing users to their paid services. Their next gen UI they have demoed even more so. I have family who struggle and get confused with what my shares to them are, or why they suddenly gets ads.
Jellyfin is great server software. I’ve been running it alongside for my own testing. But it has even worse client issues than Plex client does. Jelly and Swift clients are no where near yours, and nowhere near ‘just working’.
Proposal:
Improve the free tier. Make it follow the Apple way of “just works”.
It is my recollection that any video file that has dolby, or other advanced tech, forces a popup to buy a Pro license. The reality is… it’s really hard to avoid content with certain licensed content and I recognize your licensing restrictions.
So push it back to the server, plex server can do lots of transcoding. Whatever can make it, “just work”.
Maybe have two play buttons. (Play Free) (Subscribe to Play Pro)
Regular users, with no pops can keep playing (free-basic-transcode as necessary). And those like me, can subscribe to Pro.
In my circle, only my dad and I who have serious setups in our den are subscribing to your app.
However; I have 10+ other family and friends. If I can convert them over, and say, hey use this new app for the same stuff, and it will “just work” with less nagging and confusion!!! oh!
Of those 10+ new users… I would say 3 of them have a 70-80% of converting to subscribers for “better quality” I can work that. I would say 3 of them have a 20-30% of converting. And the other 4 or more, yea no way, they are just plugged into a basic tv using builtin audio and barely recognize anything going on and can just keep transcoding.
- I would love to move more users away from the plex client without the requirement of initial cost
- Gives me the option to better consider Jellyfin server sw
- I think can bring you more paying users in the long run
