8.2 Home Screen - getting back to what was

I’ve got my media on a plex server in the closet.

All was good and so I decided to start tweeting the sort oder and see what I could accomplish.

used to have movies , tv shows , other orange top category buttons on the Home Screen.

After playing around with customizing the screen options and sort order, now I’ve only got Library, All Files, Media Server.

the Movies, TV. Shows , and Other buckets are gone.

So now it’s a multi click task to drill down into the library to get the bit list of movie posters.

How can I get it back to what was a quicker access to a full grid of all movies ?

HELLO,

On the plex server config, it might be that the advanced option “library mode” is inactive.

Looking under

Setting→ shares → saved shares: plex → edit share → advanced (note I don’t believe I touched any of this since setup.) :

Smb auto

Port 435

Workgroup optional

MAC address …….

Auto scan : on

Pre cache details : on

Pre cache artwork: on

Smartfolders : on

Save

Speed test

There is no library mode option.

I’d hoped this would fix the bug I’ve had with the configuration of the root screen content - it alas not. I’d previously tried deleting the AppleTv app, reinstalled it, and it’s still borked.

My root screen only has library , all files , media server. I’d tried some changes to the “sort” a while back and lost the movies and tv shows tiles in that root screen and there doesn’t seem to be any way to get them back.

How does one restore the initial root layout ? Something in a config file didn’t get reset when I removed and then reinstalled the app.

Maybe the question is “how do i add “Movies” and “TV Shows” back to “favorites” “ because the only thing in the Home Screen list is “Favorites”.

You can re-add the Movies, TV Shows, and Other favorite items by navigating in the Library and long-pressing on a category to add it as a favorite.

The default favorites are:

  • Movies = All Movies
  • TV Shows = All TV Shows
  • Other = Other

Aha. Got them back. Non obvious , well for me at least , as I don’t use the AppleTV remove but rather a programmable one, so there is no “long press” capability. I only dig out the remote app on the phone on the very odd need to modify the appleTv installed app layout or remove an app. So I never try long press as a thing inside apps. Thanks for the info.

The different places (sort order vs account settings or library detail adjustments ) where one modifies what is shown where may need some simplification. But at least I’ve got it back. Whew. Thanks again.
