Maybe people are tired to send error reports. for last 2 months i couldn’t finish a movie from start to end.
with the new version(5.6.9), when i try to watch a movie it is buffering at least 3 times in twenty minutes. and than i lost connection. when i lost the connection it takes 10 minutes connect again. i hate to see “an error occurred loading this content” error. but in a movie 4-5 times i see this message.
Same issues for me. The workaround I found that may apply to you is to use a Plex Server on your Mac. Works flawlessly
I’d be glad to read if it works for you. Cheers.
Just get the free Plex Server and use it as DLNA - no need to buy anything else (:
Plex Client is not as cool as Infuse - a lot of issues especially around useless transcoding while Infuse just plays everything straight.
Same issues here on my Mac and aTV 4k - a lot of stuttering/buffering (like every two minutes for about 10 seconds) that never happened before - please fix this!
Edit: the Workaround over Plex/DLNA works for me, thx.
Yeah, I am using NFS, but have noticed that Synology doesn’t default to the highest SMB version. On mine it was default on SMB2 and I had to manually change it to SMB3. Go figure…
Maybe Infuse should make it very clear that you need to make sure that SMB3 is enabled/available on your server, in order to take advantage of the SMB improvements.
So after 2 weeks is there an update to this stuttering problem over SMB? I can’t sit through a 4K movie without it buffering every 2 mins. Everything was perfect before the update!
The MKV file is on an external HDD connected to my router via USB3.0…SMB over wired connection(ethernet cable) to ATV 4K…like I mentioned everything was working well before the update to 5.6.9…there is no way for me to swtich to SMB2 or SMB3 as my router does not have the function(Asus AC68U)
After analysing this thread and other relevant topics regarding SMB connection problems with 5.6.9, I noticed that majority problems with speed and buffering issues over SMB are with peaople who are streaming 4k content from differnt NAS devices. I would like to mention, that nat in all NAS devices can be choosen SMB version, for example my Seagate Persomal Cloud can’t be configured to choose SMB version, I don’t know even what version of SMB client is there. Another issue is connection to Windows 10 PC’s. So, there are definitely exists problems with SMB implementation in InFuse. It is very strange situation, for example I never had issues with SMB connection/performance with nPlayer for iOS and the only reason to purchase InFuse (which is 3 times more expensive than nPlayer) was Apple TV app, actually I expected to see some decend competitor to KODI, but I found that it would be a long and expencive (because we have to pay for every major version update) road…
We’re finalizing an update today, and if all goes well plan to submit this to Apple tomorrow.
In this update we’ve included a number of SMB related fixes, as well as an option to set an SMB version manually. This will allow you to choose SMB 1, 2, or 3, as well as an added legacy option which allows Infuse to connect using the previous SMB library used in 5.6.8 and earlier. In general, SMB implementations can vary widely between devices, but we feel these fixes and new level of control will provide a far reaching solution that should allow everyone to experience great SMB performance, no matter what device you are connecting to.
Thanks for your patience, and keep an eye out for an update soon.
I’d just like to say I had a similar experience with the smb update. It was working perfectly previously, and when the smb3 update for infuse came along I got buffering on some content. I was going to rebuild my server anyway and so I went from 2008r2 to 2012r2 and I’ve not had a stutter since. So I suspect perhaps on win7/2008 that smb1/2 might be better.
We’ve just released 5.6.10 with a number of fixes for SMB, as well as an option to manually select which version of SMB Infuse connects with.
Simply installing 5.6.10 should resolve a number of reports that we have seen come through, but if that does not work for your particular case you can manually adjust the the ‘SMB Version’ setting which is available when editing your share’s settings, or when creating a new share.
Here’s the available settings and what they do.
Auto (default) - Connect with the highest level of SMB supported by your device.
SMB3 - Connect with SMB3 only
SMB2 - Connect with SMB2 only
SMB1 - Connect with SMB1 only
Legacy - Connect using the old SMB implementation from Infuse 5.6.8 and earlier (SMB2 and SMB1 only)
One note, SMB3 has an optional encryption feature which adds an extra layer of security. However, in some cases having this enabled can lead to lower performance due to the added security overhead. If you are using SMB3 and seeing slower than expected speeds, you may try disabling “Transport encryption” (or similar) on your server. This will allow you to take advantage of the improved connection security of SMB3, but with the same speeds as SMB2.
Just great. Now I will have to move again all my library, from webDAV back to SMB3!
JK! JK! It will be great if it works. Going to test it now.
PS: Nah. Never mind. I tried SMB3, SMB2 and Legacy. webDAV, at least with my NAS, is still much snappier loading a video/skipping . But it built a library with nearly 900 elements in a reasonable amount of time (10-15m?).One thing, though: the audio delay after skipping (via webDAV) seems to have been reduced - nah. It actually depends on the video. it goes from 0 to about 2s. In some the video stream starts before the audio catches up.
Setup SMB again…tried Auto mode but the stuttering/buffering still persist on 4K mkv files…error connecting on SMB2/3 so switched to Legacy…had no time to sit through a movie but 10mins in the movie was smooth and everything seems ok!
I hope future updates will not have this problem again that some features have to be rolled back…cheers!
I am planning on buying an Asus 68U as well as an Apple TV 4k incl. Infuse Pro.
Just want to make sure that, when connecting my 4TB WD Mybook HDD using LAN cables through the 68U, everything runs super smooth.
I am planning to play 4k UHD HDR MKV movies, as well as 1080p x265 10bit files and 4k x265 10bit files, which I record and edit myself using a Panasonic GH5. Bitrates can be up to 200Mbit/s, hence I prefer to check in advance.
